Heat Pump Project Background
Normanton Lodge is a care home for elderly people in the Mansfield area. It is run by My Care, a family-owned business that is dedicated to providing high quality care for the elderly, with 13 homes across the East Midlands. My Care is committed to utilising renewable energy, wherever possible in its care homes, so heat pumps were a natural choice.
A fine period building, Normanton Lodge was opened in 1971 and has been extended sympathetically over the years. Most recently, this has included a 46-bedroom brick-built extension to the care home, which required its own dedicated heating system.
Heat Pump Project Solution
Due to its reputation for heat pump installations in the East Midlands Region, Trusted Energy was contacted to provide a solution to the extension’s heating and hot water requirements – this resulted in their specifying, designing and installing six 16kW air source heat pumps (F2040) with a combined output of 96kW. The six air source heat pumps were installed on a reinforced flat roof, which meant they did not interfere with the aesthetics or access to the building.
The new care home building was also fitted with underfloor heating and an MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery) system, all installed by Trusted Energy, as well as the general plumbing and fitting of the sanitaryware in order to offer a full turn-key solution.
Results
As Trusted Energy were involved in the project from the early stages of its design, the heat pump installation and commissioning ran very smoothly. The Seasonal Performance Factor for the heat pump is 376%, which means it delivers an excellent level of heat output to electricity input. In addition, My Care was able to take advantage of the Commercial RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) which provides financial support for renewable heat technologies for 20 years.
