Ground Source Heat Pump – Winster, Derbyshire

Background:

A large historic manor located in the heart of Winster, standing empty for many years, is now four modernised, high specification dwellings. Both the contractor carrying out the renovation and the local council were keen to avoid a fossil fuel heating system so contacted us for an alternative, greener solution that would also provide the occupants with low heating costs but maximum comfort.

Solution:

Air source heat pumps were not an option as there was no suitable location for the modern-looking fan units on the exterior of the property that would not affect the classic aesthetics of the building, particularly as the town is a conservation area.

To compound the challenge of finding a suitable heat pump solution, insufficient land was available for horizontal ground collector loops, typically installed with ground source heat pumps.

Results:

The end result was four 12kW ground source heat pumps married to 300ltr hot water cylinders (one for each property) working in conjunction with six 120 metre vertical boreholes, well concealed in the front lawn/driveway.
